Care leavers: youngsters at risk of social exclusion

Those who have to leave the child protection system at eighteen, face the external world without the safety net of a family. Synergia worked on this vulnerable and invisible target together with other Italian and European partners thanks to funding from the DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission between 2008 and 2009. The comparative transnational research done in Italy, France, Romania, Latvia, Bulgaria enquired into needs and services dedicated to the transition period from residential structures to independent living of this category of youngsters. The main output of the project is a Matrix of guidelines for social inclusion, presented at the Mutual learning on active inclusion and homelessness conference, held in Brussels in May 2010.
